Summer is a fun, vibrant, activity-filled time at Lake Como and St. Barths, so much so that deciding what you’d like to do can become a little overwhelming. In light of this, we have selected some of our top events and activities happening this summer in each location for you to choose from.
Lake Como
July 2019
04 July: Fireworks
A fantastic firework display has been arranged to go off from Villa D’Este. We suggest the best place to enjoy the full spectacle is from Momi Restaurant located just 10 minutes from Il Sereno. As this is likely to be a popular idea, we suggest booking ahead of time!
05 July: LacMus Festival Musical Greenway
Make your way along a glorious musical journey from the Church of Sant’Eufemia in Ossuccio to Sant’Andrea in Lenno, with walks on the lake accompanied by musical interludes. Visit the official website to learn more.
05 July: Friday Evening Craft Market
Head to Menaggio’s lakeside promenade for an evening among the brimming stalls. Select some of your favourite handcrafted objects and enjoy the view before heading back to the hotel. The market takes place every Friday from 18:00 – 22:30.
05 – 07 July: Lake Festival 2019
Join the town of Varenna for the 38th annual Lake Festival. Suited to all ages and interests, the festival promises a rich calendar of activities from street food and music, to historical re-enactments and fireworks. Visit the website to learn more.
13 July: Festival of Sant’Anna
Each year the hamlet of Menaggio hosts a celebration of music and dance at the Municipal Park of Nobiallo in honour of Sant’Anna. The celebrations commence at 19:00 and, if you’re lucky, there’s also the chance to indulge in a traditional dinner too. Visit the website for more information.
22 July: Lake Como Swim
Break out your floatables and bathing suits, it’s swim time! Whether you’re an amateur keen for a paddle or professional hoping to set the pace, all are welcome to take part in the annual swim from Moltrasio to Torno and back. This is also a family friendly event so children are invited to participate. All participants are required to register prior to the race so find out the in’s and out’s of taking part here.
27 – 28 July: Food Truck Festival
Menaggio’s lake side park will play host to a tasty gathering of food trucks for the weekend so whether you’re in the mood for a snack, lunch, or dinner, enjoy a delicious meal with a stellar view.
29 July: Celtic Glueckners – Celtic Harps
Sit back and relax to the harmonious harps of Celtic Glueckners in Varenna. The concert commences at 21:30 at the Church of San Giovanni in Varenna.
August 2019
02 August: Friday Evening Craft Market
Friday Evening Craft Markets in Menaggio are back throughout the month of August. Peruse promenade stalls full of handcrafted goods while enjoying gorgeous lake views and a great atmosphere.
03 August: Gastronomic Dance Evening
The lakeside park Nobiallo di Menaggio will play host to a Gastronomic Dance Evening with al fresco dining from 19:30 followed by a designated dancefloor from 21:00.
10 August: Pino Festival
The ‘Pino Festival‘ in Varenna provides a unique opportunity for anyone that wishes to enjoy traditional Lombard food accompanied by great music. 10 August: Musical Firework Display
Admire the amazing annual Musical Firework Display from Menaggio’s promenade. Begin your evening at 19:00 with refreshments at various lake side stalls or have dinner in the park with the provided kitchen service. The firework display will start at 22:30 and is well worth the wait!
23 August: International Guitar Festival
Visit Piazza Garibaldi in Menaggio for the first day of the International Guitar Festival 2019. Since its inception, this festival has grown in popularity each year. Now entering its 12th edition, the festival is set to be bigger and better than ever with varied sounds and musical languages from contemporary classical guitar to jazz. 31 August: Menaggio Fashion Show
Calling all fashionista’s! Prepare to strut your stuff at the annual fashion show in Menaggio commencing at 21:00. Enjoy an al fresco dinner at the park from 19:00 before settling down for an evening of high fashion.
St. Barths
July 2019
01 – 31 July: St. Barths Summer Camp
Prepare for five weeks of wellness on the island. Take part in daily wellness and yoga classes, primarily taking place right on the beach.
14 July: Bastille Day
Join the locals in the annual Bastille Day celebrations kicking off at 11:00 with a War Memorial ceremony and wine of honour at the Collectivity House followed by a 17:30 Petanque Competition and prize-giving and rounded off by a firework display and dancing in Gustavia. If you’re looking to fill in the gaps, or celebrate privately, Nikki Beach is known for their Bastille Day festivities.
29 July: Fé des quartiers du Nord Head down to Flamands Beach for a family-friendly day filled with various contests, regattas, animations, and fireworks.
August 2019
01 – 15 August: St. Barths Tennis Open
Known to be the largest tennis tournament in St. Barths for men, women, and children, the annual Tennis Open will once again take place in St. Jean between 1 and 15 August 2019. Spectators and supporters are always welcome!
03 – 20 August: St Barths Summer Sessions & SJBAM Music Festival
Back for its 8th year in a row, Summer Sessions brings a talented mix of musicians to perform across the island over 11 nights. This event is not one to be missed!
04 – 16 August: St. Barths Family Festival
The St. Barths Family Festival always signifies a time of fun, partying, and musical fireworks! Night after night a tropical club atmosphere permeates the island featuring live music at Do Brazil, Le Yacht Club, and Le Ti St. Barths.
24 August: Festival of St. Barthelemy
In celebration of the Patron Saint, Barthelemy, this fantastic festival features Church and official ceremonies, regattas, a public ball, and a firework display in Gustavia.
25 August: St. Louis Festival Taking place in the Village of Corossol, prepare for a day full of fishing contests, regattas, a public ball, and spectacular fireworks in Gustavia.
