Planning an escape to Como in 2020, but unsure of what to do while you’re there? With such a variety of activities and events, the task of designing an itinerary can be daunting. Not to worry – we’ve got you covered! Read on to find out our top 5 recommendations for things to do during your stay;
Watersports
There’s truly no better way to experience the lake than through the wide selection of watersports on offer at Il Sereno. These activities are available from May until mid-September and closed for the winter months. A classic addition to many Como holidays is the chance to try your hand at waterskiing. This elegant activity combines adrenaline and skill to offer an afternoon of pure delight. Alternatively, if you wish to feel the wind through your hair with a loved one, why not try a Ringo ride?
Hiking to Montepiatto
Hiking in Lake Como offers you the opportunity to experience nature at its finest. Scaling the verdant amphitheatre that encircles the lake will reward you with panoramic views and fresh mountain air. One of the most popular hikes Como has to offer is the trek up to Montepiatto. This short and easy hike starts near the Hotel in Torno. The scenic loop takes you to 1804 feet above sea level to a spectacular viewpoint from which to see the lake in all its glory. At a leisurely pace, the walk takes 4 hours. There are several wonderful hikes in Lake Como of varying length and difficulty, so, for the avid hikers amongst you, we created a blog to outline each of the routes. For any further information, please don’t hesitate to ask our friendly concierge.
Wine Tasting
Experience Italian culture through a very particular artform, and visit the world-renown wineries in Valtellina. Nestled in the heart of the Alps of Lombardy, where the weather is ideal for cold climate grapes, are a multitude of top-notch wine estates boasting beautiful views and gastronomic delights. Sip on a wide range of varietals and take a moment to soak in one of the oldest traditions in Italy.
Visit the Towns
The town of Bellagio boasts old-world Italian charm and streets lined with character and is one of our favourite places to visit. We suggest a decadent lunch at Bellagio’s Darsene di Loppia, followed by a mouth-watering gelato at Gelateria del Borgo before you explore what’s around the next corner. While you’re out and about, we recommend stopping in at some of our other top towns such as Menaggio, Varenna, Tremezzo, and of course Como.
Explore By Boat
Il Sereno commissioned three custom Ernesto Riva boats for the hotel, one of which is the Vaporina del Lago (a water limousine) and the other two are more commonly known as Jetto boats. The beauty of our Jetto boats is that guests are welcome to try their hand at being captain and take the wheel themselves with just a driver’s license. Hit the lake in style and explore to your heart’s content in these iconic vessels. To learn more about the history of Riva boats and why they are so iconic, read our blog on Cantiere Ernesto Riva.
Don’t forget to schedule in some much-deserved me-time at Il Sereno’s spa amidst all the activity and adventure. Along with some sublime treatments, the spa also offers a hot tub, steam room and sauna for your enjoyment.
Start planning your 2020 trip to Lake Como today by emailing info@ilsereno.com or visiting our website to book online. The hotel is currently closed for the winter but will be open again in March so don’t delay and make a reservation while there’s still space.
