Enjoy watching the sunset on St. Barths best beach, at one of its finest restaurants, aboard your own personal watercraft, and more.

On St. Barths, the moment the sun slips below the horizon marks the instant the island transforms from beach paradise to nightlife hotspot. After a long, leisurely day spent shopping, boating, or lounging by the water, taking in the sunset with a cocktail in hand is the perfect way to transition from day to night. Here are the best places to watch the sunset on St. Barths.

Sipping wine

Grand Cul-de-Sac

If your day involves soaking up the sun and swimming or paddleboarding in the calm waters of Grand Cul-de-Sac at Le Sereno’s beach club, there’s no reason to leave as the day winds to a close. Allow one of our staff members to bring a signature cocktail or glass of rosé to your lounge chair, and take in the sunset without moving a muscle. Those who crave something to eat during cocktail hour will find our new beach restaurant, Plage, is just steps away and offers fresh cuisine perfect for pairing with a drink. If the sunset coincides with dinner time for your family, you’ll find everything you need at Le Sereno Al Mare, our open-air, on-property restaurant, where nearly every table features spectacular water views. Though the beachside setting portrays a casual air, the menu of contemporary Italian cuisine featuring the freshest local ingredients will exceed all expectations. A new menu brings fresh items such as spaghetti with cucumber ceviche, but long-time favorites such as lobster spaghetti remain.

Sailing at sunset on St. Barths

Aboard a Boat

Though watching the sunset from a beachside perch is ideal, nothing compares to doing so aboard a sailboat or yacht. Le Sereno’s concierge team is prepared for any request and is happy to recommend charter companies or set up your group with a full-day excursion. Allow your captain to take you to some of the island’s best hidden gems, such as Colombier Beach, then drop anchor in a prime sunset-viewing location. Open a bottle of rosé and enjoy cool ocean breezes while you watch the sky change from blue to yellow, orange, and pink.

Shellona at Shell Beach

Shell Beach is unique because — unlike the white sands of St. Barths’ other beaches — it’s covered in millions of tiny shells. Every visit to St. Barths should include a trip to Shell Beach, and Shellona provides the perfect location for visiting the beach, viewing a stunning sunset, and continuing your evening at one of Gustavia’s many restaurants or nightclubs. Enjoy drinks or a full dinner: Its Greek menu includes favorites such as feta wrapped in phyllo with honey, grilled octopus, and a daily fresh fish special.

Tropical sunset

Colombier Beach

Adventurers will find no better spot to take in the sunset than Colombier Beach, one of the island’s most picturesque—and hidden—spots. Accessible only by boat or one of two hiking paths, the beach faces west and offers a stunning view of the sunset. Those who wish to challenge themselves will enjoy taking the upper trail to the beach from Lookout Point, but the lower trail, which starts at Flamands Beach, offers a less strenuous option and is a better option for after the sun sets, as well. (Be sure to pack a flashlight or headlamp to navigate your way back to your car once it’s dark). Pick up provisions for a picnic lunch on your way (including a bottle of rosé for a sunset toast, of course), then settle in for the day.   There’s truly no bad place to enjoy one of St. Barths’ stunning sunsets, but this list includes our tried-and-true favorites.
